If anyone were to ask me for a luxury wedding venue in Upstate NY, hands down my first response would be The Sablewood!

Location and Background

Located a short drive from Albany, NY nestled in Northern Catskill Mountains, The Sablewood is 120 acre working family farm. When you arrive on site you will see their stunning circa 1870 post & beam barn, as well as the new white barn (it reminds me of a French White Barn!) called The Charlington. The reception barn has soaring 40′ high ceilings and 12′ wide 1920s vintage crystal chandelier that will take your breath away!

The team behind The Sablewood is family-run and led by Lisa, she and her team over-deliver from top to bottom! In terms of the wedding size, The Sablewood can accommodate a wedding ranging from 25-175 guests.

Onsite Amenities

If you are looking for a venue that has everything in one place, look no further The Sablewood has it all! Located upstairs in the main barn there are two bridal suites for getting ready in the morning. The birdal suite is a dream! White walls tons of natural light an space for your bridal party and makeup and hair team. There is also a loft in The Charlington barn, that I think it’s perfect for groomsmen photos!

In terms of your ceremony, there are three options to choose from. First up is, the “ceremony circle” that is surrounded by greenery and a short walking distance from the main barn. Second, is the “hiltop” which is located at the top of the property in front of the lake. This ceremony location has mountains in the back and a willow tree that artfully shades you and your guests. Third, in the event, it rains or if you have a winter wedding and want your ceremony inside, The Charlington Barn has you covered.

For cocktail hour you and your guests have access to The Charlington Barn both inside and out. The terrace located off the barn, is a great place to share a toast with your guests. When you are outside in the summer you will see a wall of hydrangea that frame the space, and in the fall you will see foliage across the mountains that surround the Sablewood.

Stunning Portraits

As you will see in the photos below, The Sablewood has no shortage of incredible places to take photos! I have shot at The Sablewood several times and each time I am finding a new spot that I love! The florals they have throughout the property add the perfect pop of color to your photos. Whether it’s the floral boxes on the front steps, blooming hydrangea bushes, or the lilac-lined pathways, there is something for every floral lover! But before your wedding day is over, it goes without saying that sunset photos towards the hiltop are an absolute MUST!
