The Sablewood in the fall is truly picturesque. Nestled in Highview Springs, The Sablewood is not only an exceptional setting for a wedding day, but also a stunning location for a fall engagement session. Dana and Devin are getting married at The Sablewood this October and envisioned an engagement session that reflected their wedding day’s rich autumn tones, mountain views, and a setting that feels elevated and romantic.
Fall is one of the most popular seasons for engagement sessions in Upstate New York, and location is one of the most important elements when planning your session. Surrounded by the Catskill Mountains, The Sablewood offers a breathtaking 120-acre property that comes alive with vibrant fall foliage. We worked together to select a weekend that aligned with peak foliage, allowing us to fully capture the beauty of The Sablewood in the fall.

The Sablewood Property
The Sablewood has no shortage of breathtaking locations for couples’ portraits. We began with portraits at the base of the property near the White Barn, which is used on wedding days for cocktail hour and indoor ceremonies. It is an elegant and versatile space, and a beautiful option in any season, especially in the event of inclement weather.
One of the things I love about The Sablewood property is the thoughtful greenery and florals that enhance the property year-round. From hydrangeas lining the fences to the charming green-and-white buses that guide guests toward the White Barn and entrance to the large reception barn, The Sablewood creates a sense of grandeur that starts the moment you step onto the property and leaves a lasting impression.
Next, we headed to the ceremony circle. During the summer months, it is framed with lavender, while in the fall, lush greenery leads to a circle of hydrangeas and trees filled with brilliant fall color. The Sablewood offers two ceremony locations: the ceremony circle at the base of the stairs from the bridal suite and a second location at the top of the property near the pond. This elevated ceremony site provides sweeping mountain views and a stunning willow tree that frames couples beautifully as they exchange vows.

Before heading to the top of The Sablewood property, Dana and Devin changed outfits. I offer all of my clients the option for an outfit change, regardless of season, as it adds variety to their gallery and provides more options for save-the-dates and photos you will want to print and hang in your home!
The top of The Sablewood may be one of its best-kept secrets! This is a location I often reserve for sunset portraits on wedding days, and experiencing these panoramic mountain views during peak fall foliage made this engagement session especially unforgettable.
With a more casual outfit for the second half of their session, we had a blast running through open fields, perfecting a joyful spin into a dip kiss! It is clear Dana and Devin are absolute naturals in front of the camera, and their fall engagement session at The Sablewood was such a blast to photograph.
I cannot wait to celebrate with them and their loved ones in just a few short months. Stay tuned for their wedding day at The Sablewood this October!
